Bouře barev

Large-format canvases and the glass objects Výkřik capture the energy of action painting – colours run, layer and seep like a solidified living restlessness.
Bouře barev – Vladimír Kopecký – Galerie Kuzebauch

The works of Vladimír Kopecký are often described as “a window into his soul”, suggesting that the artist's work is highly distinctive and emotional. An expressive and dynamic use of colours, which are often in motion, is characteristic of his work and frequently expresses strong feelings and moods. The artist seeks to express his inner world, whether fantasy, dreams or the subconscious. He finds the meaning of his life in work that makes him happy and wholly absorbs him. Kopecký's work reflects not only his personal life but also the era in which he lives.

“I paint what I feel, not just what I see.”

Prof. Vladimír Kopecký is one of the most important figures of Czech visual art. He is a painter, graphic artist, glass artist, author of glass installations for architecture, poet and university professor. He is known for his innovative techniques and original style, which sets him apart from other artists. He has a unique approach, whether working with glass or as a painter on canvas.

Kopecký's work oscillates between two poles:

  • Introverted, closed, with a geometrically precise and minimalist order that evokes calm, silence and melancholy.
  • Expressive, unbridled, even stormy, filled with emotion and a desire to provoke.

A painter, graphic artist and professor at UMPRUM. A pioneer of glass as free art: I paint what I feel, not just what I see. An expressive and geometric creator.
Více o umělci

The exhibition Bouře barev presents three large-format canvases created in 2025.

Kopecký's painterly compositions are a poetic expression, an expressive storm of colours

and the animal vitality of action painting. The colours are applied to the canvas in layers, gradually running and spread with a brush, knife, spatula and even fingers. They document an elemental act of creation, full of emotion and the intoxication of free work with colour.

The canvases are complemented by a series of glass objects titled Výkřik (2026), created especially for Galerie Kuzebauch in collaboration with Martin Janecký and Jan Janecký. Kopecký applies his painterly signature to glass as well. He applies the individual colours in several different ways, from the inside and the outside. By rotating them, he lets them gradually run. One shade merges with another. In this way he creates textures and effects that give his works depth and expressiveness. Kopecký often mixes colours to create unique shades and tones, thereby achieving highly distinctive colour combinations. For him, glass is not the goal of creation, but a means of expressing thoughts, ideas and emotions.

Prof. Vladimír Kopecký is a wonderful example of the fact that age is just a number and that the soul can stay young and full of energy.
