Ľudmila Žilková is a visual artist and designer working under the brand MILA ZILA, an independent studio based in Northern Bohemia. Her practice focuses primarily on glass, light, and sculptural objects. She is driven by a deep interest in materials and their capacity to carry personal experience, memory, and the traces of the creative process. For her, glass is not the subject itself, but a medium whose natural properties and variability shape the final form of the work. Alongside her own artistic practice, she has long been professionally involved in lighting design, which she is increasingly integrating into her objects and spatial installations.
A key part of her approach is finding a balance between control and respect for the material's natural behavior. She does not work toward a strictly predefined result, but instead leaves room for experimentation and the creative process itself. She often draws inspiration from everyday objects, stripping them of their original function and transforming them into autonomous pieces.
She explores this approach further in the series Persona, where she works primarily with hand-blown glass. These objects exist on the boundary between design and fine art sculpture, raising questions about identity, authenticity, and our relationship with the things that surround us. The project is evolving to incorporate flat glass, stainless steel, light, and neon, as her work increasingly engages with spatial and site-specific installations.
