Zdeněk Lhotský – portrét

Zdeněk Lhotský

A glass artist (*1956), founder of Studio Lhotský-Pelechov (1994). The Vitrucell technology: fusing glass cells in the archetypal forms of bowls.

„Enterprising is about survival of the toughest. You have to prepare for everything.”

Zdeněk Lhotský (*1956) graduated from the Secondary Vocational School of Glassmaking in Světlá nad Sázavou and from the Secondary School of Glassmaking in Železný Brod. Then he worked for two years in the glass centre in the architecture of Železnobrod glassworks. In 1978-1984 he studied glass at the University of Applied Arts in Prague under Prof. Stanislav Libenský.

During his studies he realized designs by Czech and foreign artists. He is engaged in the creation of fused glass sculptures, glass design, stained glass and the technique of fired painting on glass. He creates drawings, prints, metal sculptures and realizations for architecture. Vitrucell is the last original technology of the glass artist, designer, technologist and entrepreneur Zdeněk Lhotský. Transparent glass, probably the most similar to float glass in terms of technical parameters, gives the structure of a honeycomb. The technical specification states that the maximum weight of one piece of glass that can be fused is three hundred kilograms with a maximum glass panel size of 130 x 270 cm and a minimum thickness of 2 cm.
