
Jiří Pelcl (*1950) is one of the most distinctive figures of Czech design and architecture. He studied architecture at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague and furniture design at the Royal College of Art in London. In his work he focuses mainly on product design, interiors, glass, porcelain and furniture. His work is based on a sensitive connection of function, material and formal restraint.
He has collaborated with a number of Czech and foreign brands, including Crystalex, Moser, Preciosa, Bomma, Techo and Plastia. He worked for many years at UMPRUM, where he was rector from 2002 to 2005. He has received a number of awards for his work, including the National Prize for Design, Czech Grand Design and the Red Dot Design Award. His works are represented in important collections in the Czech Republic and abroad, for example at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague and the Moravian Gallery in Brno.
