Anna Polanská

Anna Polanská (*1973, Mladá Boleslav) is a glass artist and educator. She studied at the Secondary School of Glassmaking in Kamenický Šenov, later at the Glass Studio in Ústí nad Labem under Pavel Mizera, and subsequently at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, where she studied first in the Sculpture Studio led by Professor Kurt Gebauer and later in the Glass in Architecture Studio of Professor Marian Karel. She has also worked for many years as an educator at the Secondary School of Glassmaking in Železný Brod. She lives and works in Chlístov near Železný Brod.

In her work, Polanská focuses primarily on archetypal forms and their relationship to people and landscape. She creates ground and bonded objects from coloured glass, combining precisely constructed forms with the natural qualities of the making process. The final shape of the work is often influenced by the movement of the grinding wheel itself, introducing an element of chance, subtlety and fragility into an otherwise geometric order. Her works thus move between the objectivity of elementary forms and the subjective experience of encounters, relationships and personal connections.

Anna Polanská’s works are represented in public and private collections in the Czech Republic and abroad, including the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague, the North Bohemian Museum in Liberec and a museum collection in Munich. She regularly participates in solo and group exhibitions.
